I need Arguements for why it was a good thing.

California was going to either come into the USA as a free state or else they were going to take their billion dollars worth of gold and start their own country, much like Texas did (that's why California has a single star on it, like Texas does).

The rest of the Compromise ended up being fairly meaningless (ex. the fugitive slave act, it never was intended to be enforced by those living in the North).

There are scholars with doctorates on the Compromise of 1850. They don't all agree with each other.

This, and the Missouri Compromise 30 years earlier, were all attempts to keep the union from falling apart over the issue of slavery.

The only "good" of these things is the fact that they are all part of the movement to erase slavery from our hearts and from our land.
