The toilet tablets I have used in the past worked great, but contained bleach and ruined the parts in the tank. Does anyone have a suggestion of a different product to use?

Yes... Efferdent Denture Cleaner.

they work great - I bought a house and the previous owner left some in the bathroom drawer... My wife dropped a one packet in the tank and one packet in the bowl... wow talk about sparkling... and with minimal scrubbing

makes sense though - that is after all what they were designed to clean.

Any product that goes in the tank disolves. This can leave grains that block sealing of the flapper. Bleach products (as you know) destroy the parts in the tank. New products go into the bowl through the overflow pipe but still make contact with the gasket between the tank and bowl. Use a product that hangs in the bowl.

I use a product by Oxi Clean and KaBoom. It is on the net under Kaboom but I had Walmart order it in for me. It is called NeverScrub and you get a litlle holder to put it in. I am amazed with it keeping the black spots and the rings out of my toilet.

Well doy it stopped working! Why'd you even get it out of the toilet? Gross. =p. You're gonna need to get a new one, the water probably found its way into the system and it aint going to work. Sorry =(
