I'm going to buy a new pair of shoes,what are some things that I should look for when I buy a new pair.any suggestions?

If it's a shoe that you plan on wearing everyday then it must fit well and feel comfortable. Try wearing it around your house for awhile, because typically once a shoe is worn outside it can't be returned if it shows. Also, if it's a shoe you plan to have for a long time, look at the quality of it, does it look like it will fall apart after a short time?
If the shoe is one that you will only wear occasionally and not for long durations of time, then fit and comfort aren't quite as important. If you really like the looks of the shoe, but it doesn't fit perfect, maybe you are willing to sacrifice if you won't have the shoe on for long.

Find a good quality store that will take the time to measure your feet. Also, they can determine if you have wide, regular, or narrow feet. Which is important when you are deciding on which shoes to choose.
Style is very important. Depending on your personality and where you will be wearing the shoes, you want to choose a style you can live with that won't be an uncomfortable fit for you. If you are a office working guy, you should wear smooth oxfords or wingtip shoes that lace up, period. It just looks more professional. Also, they can be resoled and last a lifetime if they are the more expensive type.
Save the monk strap or penny loafers for your days off. Also, they should be real leather because leather will make your feet feel more comfortable that shoes made out of plastic.
Have them shined sometimes or you can purchase a shoe shine kit and do-it-yourself.
If you have to stand up on your feet for work, Rockports are a very comfortable, quality shoe for walking and standing for long periods.

For girls (all ages) I like to include style, comfort, and being feminine. I recommend the Mary Jane. It is so girly and you can get all sorts of soles and heal heights. For boys....there are so many cool sneaker-like dress shoes that are so cool!

wait till the end of your work day b/c your feet will probably be swollen. that way when you go shopping you'll find some shoes that feel comfortable.

Comfort. Walk around in them for at least 10 mins to see if they hurt your feet.
