Yes, he is the author of Eragon.

There has been a lot of discussion on the "originality" of his story, as it is the stereotypical "Hero's Journey," with plot elements that are extremely similar to Star Wars:

- Boy raised by uncle in a rural-type setting
- While boy is with a mentor, uncle's house is destroyed and uncle is killed, leaving the boy free to pursue adventure
- Boy possesses inherent power, mentor is an old expert in the field of that power but is "retired" in a way
- Boy gets images from girl who needs help
- Boy rescues girl

But, of course, many works follow the archetypal Hero's Journey, and one can find similarities among all of them. Either way, Eragon was written by Paolini.
