I need an application or a trick to use on a mac system 10.4 in order to play a joke on one employee that is really annoying. I just want something innocent that will make his monitor smile...or the desktop disappear or some other weird behaviour so he can freak out and we can remind him he has been an asshole for a long time. ANybody know about anything we can try without causing damage?

1 - we told him, he cant help himself.
2 - I'm the owner of the company, but we like to play jokes on each other.

So before you give me another smartass answer, does anybody know where should I look? Thanx!

This is always good for a laugh but it is not specific to a Mac. It's just easier to do on a Mac.

You'll need access to his system when he is not around. If he keeps lots of files scattered on the Desktop, all the better. Open a couple of windows, anything, doesn't matter what. Ooh, if you had a picture of a devastating error message, you could open that. Take a screenshot by pressing shift + command + 3. That will make an image file on the desktop, such as Picture 1.pdf. Open it in Photoshop, crop off the part at the top that shows the menu bar. Save it anywhere, back on the desktop is fine. Put any other files that are shown on the desktop into a folder on the hard drive. Now open System Preferences > Desktop. Click "Choose folder" and then select the Desktop or wherever you saved the picture. Select the picture as the desktop picture. Quit System Preferences. Click on Finder > Preferences. In the General tab, for "Show these items on the Desktop", uncheck "Hard disks". Now the screen background looks like a messy desktop but it's just a picture of a messy desktop. He will come to work, try to close the "windows" or open the files and nothing responds to the mouse. If you had that devastating error message picture open when you took the screenshot, he will freak out thinking his Mac has some big problem.

Without full admin access to a mac this is unlikely to be successful. Also if your IT are any good at all they will be logging such attacks, most companies treat this as illegal access and you could lose your job with a bad employments record. No company nowadays will employ a computer cracker, it isn't worth their risk.

You can't hack a MAC without proper permissions.

Be an adult, and talk to the person face to face.
