Hi.

The connecting should be easy if you have a "LAN" port in both machines. You will need a straight-thru Cat5 cable to connect each machine to the router, and enable the file and print sharing. (See your windows help feature for this).
If you do not have a LAN port, you can cheaply pick up a LAN card, to plug into your machine, or you can now get USB to LAN adapters which are easier to use as they sinply plug into a spare USB port. LAN stands for Local Area Network.

The router should be setup to automatically dish out IP addresses, which are used to identify each machine on your network, so there should be no setup required for this.

As far as the actual file sharing goes ... It should be as simple as "right-click" on the folder that you wish to share, and select the "Sharing And Security ..." option. Don't forget to either disable the firewall's (not recommended) or allow the file and print sharing through the firewall for wach machine. Use the windows help for this feature.

Click on the "Share This Folder" select circle, click "OK" and away you go.

You might need to adjust the settings in the "Permissions" section of the same area as the "Share This Folder" bit.

If you use the same username and password for both machines it's simple, otherwise you might need to tinker with these a little, or allow "Everyone" full access, but this is a little insecure if you use the internet!

wire the two of them with cat5 cables into the router, then enable sharing on the files you want to share by right clicking and selecting properties. look for the sharing tab, click on allow sharing. then make sure both computers are on the same domain by going into control panel and click the system icon. under the name tab, the domain name should be the same. if you still can't see each other, try disabling the firewalls.if that works, you will need to allow each computer to see the other through the firewall.

In the Help Center (in each OS), read about File Sharing, then follow the steps.
