I drive a mitsubitshi montero sport and after i got my oil changed everytime i take off a puff of black smoke comes out the tail pipe. im not sure what it is, but someone told my that it may be the oxygen sensor but ive never heard of that... can ne one tell my what it is and why it hapened and how much it will cost to fix it??

Black smoke is a sign of excess fuel burning blue smoke is a sgn of oil burning so it is a fuel problem maybe some adjustment is needed it should not cost much. ~~

It's not your carburetor, because your car doesn't have one. It's fuel injected...Black smoke is excess fuel burning, could be rich because O2 sensor is failing (in the exhaust pipe, not the intake manifold), or a sticking injector, or a number of other reasons. Take it to a reputable shop for a proper diagnosis.

I don't know if I'm correct because I'm just a highschool student but my dads jeep recently over heated. Well anyway the radiator being bad caused it but after this occurred the rods started knocking which ruined the engine so do you hear a loud knocking sound????

Black smoke is actually caused by too much gas and not enough air being combusted. Anything to do with the intake could be the problem.

Could be carbon build-up in the tailpipe.
