After the incident I gave her a good bath to wash off all of the blood. She acted no differently in the evening. She is part Jack Russell part Llaso Apso so this is her Jack Russell nature. She is three years old and has never done this before, and I want to make sure I do everything I am supposed to do for her continued good health.

This was a natural thing, and should be of no concern. She only caught and killed on instinct.

Not necessary for a vet visit but unless she is on Heartgard or Interceptor I would definitely watch her stools for signs or worms, if she ate part of the rabbit, or just had it in her mouth (which I am assuming so, in order to kill it and get blood on her - probably didn't paw it to death or give it a heart attack...oh wait rabbits DO have heart attacks, haha) she could have ingested fleas and they are an intermittent carrier for tapeworms.
Jack Russells were bred to kill (& likely eat) rats and while both are rodents the rats are MUCH nastier.
My guess is she will be fine. My next guess is that this will not be the first rodent-killing-incident.

She should not need a trip to the vet, unless you suspect rabbit poison is put down in your area. I would assume she was sick, because as it is not part of her natural diet it would have been to rich for her to digest. A visit to the vet would do no harm though.

My last dog was a Siberian Husky, she killed everything that came onto her turf except people. Rabbits, a fox, turtles (Just crunch them up like a bone, squirrels etc.
She never had any ill effects and we never had many animals come into the back yard.

We live in the country and our dogs get lots of rabbits. Our sheltie's job is to keep the veggie gardens & fruit groves free of critters and he works very hard all day long! He runs off rabbits, coons, deer, possum, fox, etc... Never any problems so long as they have their shots.
