We are renting a condo for a week of vacation. With the recent bed bug problems nation-wide, is there anything I can do to protect my family.

We've stayed there before, it's very clean and well maintained, and have never seen any pests there, but obviously I have no control over what pests other guests may have introduced to the place this season before we get there.

Inspect. Inspect. Inspect.

Check everything, bed, furniture, sofa etc.

If you need to put your clothes in the dressers, keep them isolated when you come back and wash them separetly in hot water. Make sure you check your luggage very carfeully.

The bed bugs themselves do not transport well but the eggs do.

Bed Bugs are everywhere -vacuum the mattress well and you can always use a plastic sheet under the bedding. have a great vacation.

You could bring you own mattress cover. They make a hypoallergenic one that protects you from bed bugs.
