America's not so Civil War officially began April12f 1861 with the Southern bombardment of US Fort Sumter and ended in April of 1865 with General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House ... .... Much as with the 'Mission Accomplished' Banner, the end date did not signal the end of fighting which seethed & simmerred & occassionally erupted with a vengeance through the 1870's.
