If they are drinking regular milk or certain types of formula, they may be having trouble digesting the fats in the milk. Lactose intolerance is common in infants, but needs to be diagnosed by a doctor to be sure.

Depending on the type of milk you are feeding them, it could be upsetting the baby's stomach. If it is formula, ask the pediatrician to recommend another one, maybe soy. If it is breastmilk, reevaluate the type of foods you are eating. Lots of foods like broccolli and beans are healthy for mom but can cause the baby to be gassy. Speak to your ob/gyn about that. No matter what type of milk they are drinking, make sure they are burped after drinking.

it's a build up of gas, the baby needs to be burped. when your baby is drinking from the bottle have him/her at an angle. meaning not laying down flat.
one, the liquid cannot go down properly
two, it causes ear infections
when you are sitting down with the baby, have a pillow on your lap so that you can prop the baby up while in your arms. it's quite comfortable for you and the baby.

Drinking large amounts of milk can make a baby gassy...the gas then causes pain and discomfort. That is why it is so important to burp them.

They might have injested air to cause them painful gas. Their tummies might be too full. They might just want to continue suckling for comfort, but the breast or bottle has been pulled away. They may be sleepy.
