mamad.... any you think the republicans do? neither democrats nor republicans are competent, and BOTH are CORRUPT. the power is not in the hands of the people anymore.
we desperately need somebody like RON PAUL in 2008!

Come on man. Everybody knows not much changes when a different party comes into power. And if you knew anything, not all of those democrats are liberal. There's a conservative one in Virginia who only became a democrat because he opposed the Iraq war, but there's a lot of moderate candidates too. Even if they did want to get us out of Iraq, it's difficult for anything to get done when there's a different party in the executive.

I was also shocked. I mistakenly thought the recent elections maybe gave the Dems some backbone. I was wrong. The only hope now is that the remaining Dems in Congress that were not part of the 'deal' will stand up, do what is right, and kill the bill before it can go any further. The 'deal' is a joke, we have to give the Iraq government a time table or they will continue to slide, rake in billions of US dollars and still do nothing.

The Democrats have one saving grace here! If there is no improvement come the end of summer they will demand total withdrawal once more. They are willing to compromise to a point and that point is rapidly approaching. George can put off things for only so long and then the crap hits the fan. He will also have to remember this fact when he attempts to get funding for the next years military budget! He's only making it more difficult for himself every single time he sticks his foot into his mouth!

Tune in this fall. Based on what they have said, the republicans will be more willing to support a time line if the situation in Iraq hasn't changed. The Dem's know this and know that they can't get veto proof legislation passed right now so they are waiting a couple of months. You can be angry with the Dem's all you want but they and you and I have to accept the reality of the way Washington works.

uhh...they don't have the 2/3 vote needed to override the president's veto. IF they had a substantial majority in the Senate and congress or if more Republicans were to wake up and smell sh1t storm known as Iraq, then they would be withdrawing the troops.
They WANT to withdraw the troops but they can't because they have to negotiate with a single minded dumb*ss, we have come to know as dubyah.

Our government was formed "by the people, for the people, of the people". Both parties are disappointing at best. I think it is time that we the people demand that the government does it basic duty...represent US!

Yes I saw it coming.
One you didn't elect enough democrats to make it work.
Second you also had to buy the votes with ear marks that taken out you lost those votes.

It seems that today, Americans are forced to choose between the corruption of one party and the incompetence of the other.

you have to be kidding right ? you thought pelosi was going to do something she promised ? democrats have no choice but to back down its breed into them. they talk tough but when push comes to shove they cower in a corner and cry. they've been crying for decades.
