Mosses and ferns have rhizome whereas a mango tree has root.

roots spread out using smaller roots, like bracnches underground whereas rhizomes are more dense and thick, like trunks underground. Root ginger is a rhizome.

Rhizome is a type of root. They appear as underground stems and will actually grow horizontally with a new plant growing from its tip each year.

However, since it grows underground, stores nutrients like starches, and helps acquire minerals and water from the soil its just another type of root.

That is essentially it. A rhizome is an "underground stem" which roots grow off of.
