I went in 1994 and it was the best time ever. I went with a group and was alone within the group. I didn't know anyone else. I was only 22. I did a week safari and a week at Mombasa at the coast. I preferred the safari week. Not just seeing the wildlife but the accommodation, food and scenery are all suberb. I went with Somak Tours. Definitely worth it. You need a fair few injections and malaria tablets as well as mosquito repellent and sun block. The cost back then was somewhere around £1,200 for 14 nights full board for safari and bed and breakfast and evening meal at the beach. I recommend it and I am not obsessed with animals. Just a fab experience.

I did back in December. I spent one day at Lake Nakuru Nat'l Park then 3 days at the Masai Mara. It was really cool, got to see pretty all of the animals and everything. I think 3 days at the Mara was a little much, I would have been happy with a day at Nakuru and 2 days at the Mara. As far as cost goes, I went with Primetime Safaris based in Nairobi (like all of the safari companies) and it cost $80-90 per day and they took care of everything, lodging, food, transpo, etc... It was a great time and the animals get really close to you. its expensive for Kenya but comparing it to prices for entertainment in Europe or the States its not too bad. the biggest cost is the airfare to Kenya. If you can afford it I would def. recommend it.
I also went on a 2 day Tanzanian safari as well to Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater which were both amazing. The wildlife was more densly packed than in Kenya so you see more animals and there is less time just driving around. It was a little more expensive b/c Tanzanian park costs are higher than Kenyan. I went with Victoria Expeditions in Arusha and it was like $110-120 per day. both trips were a lot of fun!

I have travelled around the world, and that is my favorite holiday by far. We left from Vancouver Canada and flew to London, then on to Nairobi. We paid around 15,000.00 CDN for 4 weeks. We could have done it for less, but we both love shopping. Also stayed at the Nairobi Safari Club for extra nights.
We went to Amboselli, Mt Kenya, Buffalo Springs/Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Lake Navaisha, and the Masai Mara, where we saw the migration of the Zebra & Wildebeest. Amazing!
We then went on to Tanzania, and visited the Serengeti, Olduvia Gorge & the Ngorongoro Crater.
It was a trip right out of National Geographic. Saw every animal thats there, except snakes. Thankfully we never saw any.
Well worth the money.

Yes it is. I did a safari to Tsavo East and West. If i was to do it again, I would do a Masai Mara safari. Its more expensive, but the difference is that you go driving along the plains in amongst the animals, whereas in the Tsavo safari's you follow a set track. If an animal is half a mile away then that is about as close as your going to get!

We`ve just returned from kenya and we had a wonderful time. We went on safari to masai mara and lake nakuru and climbed mt kenya. Our holiday was organised by a tour company called GoTo Mount Kenya http://www.gotomountkenya.com and unlike others, it is locally owned and operated, the equivalent to Fair Trade. The money you pay him for the service goes directly to him and his guides, so that they can make a reasonable living afford education for their children, rather than going to a tour operator from outside of Kenya. If we want to live in a world of greater equality, we need to make choices, and the choice to hike Mt. Kenya with Evans and his team seems like a right one. I would like to return to Mt Kenya some day, perhaps when my son is old enough to come along with my wife and me. Next time, I would like to have some more time, and even try to the technical climb to Batian, and maybe also hike up Mt Kilimanjaro. I hope to see Evans again when I do.

I went to Kenya in 2000 on a trip sponsored by the Wildlife Conservation Society. It was a two-week trip and cost ~$2500. We went to Aberdare C.C., the Ark, Sweetwaters, Samburu, Lake Nakuru/Elmenteitia, and the Maasai Mara. It was an awesome trip! We saw all of the major animals and had a really good time. Worth every penny, if you have the time. But go well prepared because some of the comforts of hotels we take for granted will usually not be available. Also get yourself innoculated against Malaria and other disease prevalent in Kenya. Masai Mara is my favorite.

Definitely worth your time and money. I have done couple of places and can't get enought of it. As for expense, it depends on your preferences, there are both the high end and lower ends when it comes to travelling, shopping, dining and hotel stays.
PS: The Maasai Mara is one of my fav places. Also consider crossing over to The Serengeti in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Yes, my husband and I went about 4 years ago for one week. There was a deal which cost us about $2200 each for airfare, room, most meals and going to three different camps. We were taken out daily with a guide to see animals. We lucked out in seeing most. It was a wonderful trip and I got lots of pictures. I'm sure there are way more expensive trips, but I don't regret ours. The rooms were great, meals just fine and just a wonderful atmosphere. This travel agency was in Canada.
