Regardless of what 'some' people have said...Adelaide is a lovely city with many historical and interesting attractions.

Rundle Mall...the main pedestrian shopping street in town.
North Terrace...a great place to walk along (between the train station and Frome Rd). You will see Parliament House, walk past Government House...various statues, The Art Gallery of SA, The Museum (free), Adelaide University with it's lovely old buildings.

The Adelaide Festival Theatre, situated by the
River Torrens...a beautiful walk, or you can go on the paddle boats or the Popeye Boat.
The Adelaide Zoo.
The Botannical Gardens.

You can take the tram down to seaside Glenelg.
We have some of the most beautiful beaches and coastlines...from north of the city, all the way right down south (Victor Harbor, Granite Island, The Bluff etc).
We also have the beautiful Adelaide Hills...Mt Lofty Botannical Gardens, Cleland Wildlife Park, Hahndorf, Monarto Zoological Park etc.

The Barossa Valley is ok if you like wine tasting.
Or down south, there's McLaren Vale, Willunga etc.

There's so much more to see (that I haven't mentioned), check the link below...

I would go to The Barossa Valley and do some wine tasting and food tasting there! The restaurants are fantastic and so are the wines.
For a similar experience (and equally as good) go to McLaren Vale - both these areas are just so fantastic and beautiful. A lot of the wineries have eating areas that look out over the hills and vineyards.
Go shopping in Rundle Mall, depending on where you are from, there is the normal 'generic' clothes shops but a bit further along on Rundle St, there is smaller boutiques with some great labels in there.
Because it will be hot, hit the beaches. The best known one and busiest is Glenelg. You won't get a close park, but if you feel like a bit of a walk and some lunch then that is the go. If you can get away for a night or two, try the Yorke Peninsula. There is heaps of little seaside towns and the beaches here are just lovely - you could get yourself a cheap cabin or onsite caravan and hang there. Further south, try Victor Harbor, Pt Elliott and Goolwa - great for water sports etc.
This is what I would do with friends if they came and visited me here, but without knowing your age and interests etc, it's hard to come up with something completely suitable.

A cricket match at the Adelaide Oval. There is something very special about the Adelaide Oval and a match there is always entertaining.

Ride the Popeye down the River Torrens.

If you want to see native wildlife, Cleland Wildlife Park in the Adelaide Hills.

For the best advice that you can get on what to do and what to see in Adelaide (and for all the idiots that have put the quickest way out.... Get a life you idiots) go to our information booth in Rundle Mall. There you will be greeted by friendly and great volunteers who will be able to give the advise you need.
I can recommend some places though.
If you like wine you may like to visit either the Barrosa Valley or the McLaren Valley wineries. Both of these places are great and make world renown wines.
Glenelg is great for just about anything. A nice stroll down near the beach or if you are a shopaholic (like me) then take a stroll down Jetty Rd Glenelg. Or if you want some hard core shopping then Rundle Mall is a great place to do your shopping (although the shops are not open on Sundays. We like to have one day to have time with our families. Yes I work in Sales as well as volunteer)
If you are looking to get fresh food may I suggest that you got the many markets that are open on the weekends or just simply go to the Adelaide Markets in town.
But seriously call in and see them in Rundle Mall and they will help you out in what to do in Adelaide
