A quadratic equation is an equation with a term containing x^2 and has no term with a higher degree (x^3, x^4, etc).
By definition a quadratic equation produces a graph that is a parabola. The data/graph for a quadratic functions has a slope that is increasing or decreasing at a constant rate.
In algebra 1 you are likely finding solutions to quadratic equations (which are also called roots or x-intercepts) by factoring and using the quadratic formula.

Are you 11 years old?
Your Maths teacher will probably teach you Quadratic equations in the next 2-3 years.
Quad means 4 and in their general case, these equations have 4 terms
example
3x^2 + 5x - 7 = 0........(3x^2 is said 3x squared)
It's a certain number of an unknown (letter) squared, plus or minus a number of the same unknown (letter), plus or minus a number equals zero.
then you'll how to solve them both by using brackets and a formula.
Good luck - I'm so glad you enjoy Maths. Whenever you want to learn something new, ask someone who'd like to help you.

quadratic equation are all kind of equation which have one of its variable quadrated. for example :
circle : x^2+y^2=25
parabola : y=4-x^2
hyperbola : x^2-y^2-25=0

origamimark, I hate you. Don't tell people to use the internet, this IS the internet. Google is not an encyclopedia...it might just bring you to yahoo answers.
