Does being hard on yourself lift the level of your efforts, or just make everything seem harder than it should?

Does being easy on yourself guarantee that your efforts will always be second rate, or just that you get what you need with less stress and bother?

I'm talking life, work, school, you name it...

I think being hard on yourself makes you exceed your expectations while being easy on yourself allows to make excuses for not meeting them.

Well I am my own worst critic, but use it in a positive way, making my efforts more valuable to me ..Being easy on myself comes when something seems effortless to me,or a 'given' for me...so all n all it does depend on a given situation..=)
