I really wish some people would do some research on these boards before asking the same questions again and again.

Basically, the answers always fall into several distinct categories:

1) Absolutely not (the scientific or rational minded)
2) Possible (skeptics, who allow for a lack in their knowledge, but don't want to be too enthusiastic)
3) Absolutely (mostly people wishing it to be true without knowing or caring why it is.)

The correct answer is: yes.

This has very little to do with magic or supernatural reasons. The answer can be most easily provided by a careful (an emphasis on the careful) reading of your physics textbook, summarized here.

The spinning motion of the planet Earth, especially it's iron-based core, creates a force known as gravity. Gravity is the force that draws energy/mass towards the center, which we are prevented from reaching by the interruption of mass between us and it. However, gravity is just that, a force, and like any force, it exists in linear relationship to two other forces, lesser and greater.

Exert a force against gravity lesser than that which gravity exerts against you, and you 'sink' or are drawn closer to the core/center of the spinning axis. Exert a force against gravity greater than gravity exerts against you and you 'rise' or pull away from the center. When you raise your hand, you thus exert a force against gravity greater than that which gravity exerts against the mass, allowing it to move against the 'pull'. When you remove that force, your hand lowers, as quick or as slowly as the force by which you choose to exert.

By thus a scientific and rational explanation, ANY force exerted against a body that exceeds that which gravity exerts will allow the body to rise. Thusly, if you were to concentrate and focus your body's electromagnetic field in a way that would essentially 'push' it between you and the force of gravity, you would rise to the height of the effort. Levitating, and flying thusly, would essentially entail riding an electromagnetic pillar of energy firmly placed between you and the ground.

As to the precise calculations that would be in effect for such a feat, I leave to those more mathematically inclined.

I would say no. This is not a definate no though, for reasons based both on spirituality and physics. While classical physics would say that levitation is impossible, modern physics continues to prove intuition a bad method of answering questions. However, for a large object like a person, I would say that classical predictions are correct enough to say that a person having the ability to levitate, at will, is impossible.

AS has already been stated levitation is a very rare ability. I do know of a few cases but not many within the last century.

like that 1 guy said. Yes but this is a forgoten art. Of course these people are going to say no, becuase they were raised not to beileve that. I can not prove this I don't know how to levitate but I'm more then sure an experienced psychic can do it

Yes it is - I saw a programme on people who practise very advanced yoga and spiritual practices and they were able to levitate for a short time about a foot or two off the floor. Cool!

I saw my mother levitate just the other day when she almost stepped on a little garter snake. :-)

Yes. Use enough high explosive and people can become airborn for several seconds!

Sure - you've never been to a girls slumber party, huh? Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
