Have you applied for DLA? Your local council may have a Welfare Rights department, give them a ring and make an appointment to discuss your rights. If they don't then go along to the Citizens Advice Bureau they should be able to help. You could be entitled to DLA, and/or Income Support, if I remember rightly you aren't automaticaly entitled to housing benefit unless you get Income Support but that could have changed.
Good luck

This disability allowance is it DLA which gives a benefit for both help and assistance required and for mobility reasons. You should also be able to get additional help by way of tax credits. There is housing benefit, council tax relief(you should get a 25% discount for being on you own).I know that £61 a week is not a lot but it depends a bit on what you have to pay for.If you have no rent or council tax to pay ,You would probably spend about £25 or so a week on food and household items.Your local citizens advice bureau will probably be able to advise you if you can improve your benefits in any way.

OK it depends on many circumstances. The DWP are geared, and in fact encouraged not to tell you anything.
You probably could get housing benefit. You might get Supplementary benefit. There are so many variables.
I suggest you see the CAB. All the lies told to you then by the former DSS (affectionately known as the Waffen SS) now the DWP (Dont Wanna Pay) do not phase them.
Or you can do it the hard way and do it yourself.
Tips:- you are only allowed a certain amount of cash, so if you have a lot buy a saleable commodity, like a plot of land , (not a house), a vintage car, antique furniture etc. BEFORE you claim or attempt to claim. Make sure you are getting a deal though, there are many fraudsters out there.

Depending on your disability, you could claim Disability Living Allowance, Income support, Housing and council Tax Benefit as well as you Incapacity Benefit.
Check with your local DWP to find out what you are entitled to and if needs be, your local Citizens Advice Office can offer you advice and help filling in the relevant forms.
Good luck.

I would certaintly make a appointment with the Citizens Advice Bureau, they will know best. Or you could ring the Disabled persons helpline on 0800 88 88 88, they also are very good. Also I would suggest geting some help with the forms from either of these company's.

contact you local council and ask them if they could arrange a benefit check for you
they usually have a department that does this for anyone
or as silly as it sounds your gas supplier may do this for you
i know some one who recently had a problem with the running cost of heating appliances in a new build council house and they found the appliances to be the wrong kind fitted for no other reason than cost to them
and they managed to get the system changed and they did a benefit check for him and got him extra benefits

I work for my council's welfare rights, contact your equivalent or CAB. You need a detailed benefit check, you don't need an appointment, just have all the details to hand when you call. Social security law is complicated so see the pros! Don't just go off what someone on the internet tells you.
