No, of course they shouldn't be. We have to know that they're trustworthy.... if that's possible.

I guess we have more Americans on here who do not take the time to read a question properly and just assume that the questions are always about them!. OK you dumb yanks, how many MP's do you have working for you in the states? I mean beside's Blair licking Bush' rear end? Come on? how many? 0?
As for this question, When Gordon Brown promised to be more open and accountable, to answer to Parliament more and spin less, I knew he was lying and his miserable response to this law proves it. How did I know he was lying? easy, if his lips are moving, then it's a safe bet that he is lying.
The spurious claim that this is to protect confidential constituency mail is luaghable as there are several laws that already cover this.
The freedom of information act was introduced to allow labour to legally leak damaging information about the tory years prior to the 30 year rule in advance of the last general election. Now we are approaching another general election in a couple of years, the MPs (mostly labour) are clammering to cover their collective behinds from scrutiny.
They are turning the freedom of information act into the freedom to withold information act.
They are scum!

If you are lawfully elected by the people, no manner of information should ever be outside the FOIA. To even consider allowing the dirt bags we currently have in office the mere luxury to hide, cover-up or otherwise occlude any information is to invite at the very least criminal activities to out right tyranny. Question...Lets say a large corporation lets call it Deadly Cancer Causing Nastiness LLC wants to dump a truckload of their waste. Overwhelmingly the State or Federal legislature passes a law stating toxic waste is not a health threat and can be used as play ground filler. If you didn't have a brain to realize something illegal was going on, wouldn't you want the right to view tax documents and other forms of receipt to see who got paid what and by who?
To understand why the FOIA is so important...go here...

I think their protections from the freedom of information act should be the same as any other American citizen if not less. Really it should follow along the lines of where the money from those expenses are coming from as well. If it is coming from the government, outside of their salary, then it should be able to be viewed under the act. If it comes from their own money, i.e. salary, then it shouldn't be viewable unless there is some criminal inquiry.

It is quite ironic that these people pass these laws and legislation's and then have the right to abstain from these Acts that they have un-democratically imposed on the people.
It is the people who put these MP's into power, as representative's, and once they are in there power box, they seem to forget about the people.
MP's should be as accountable, just as we all are.

Politicians in the UK could not lay straight in bed. Standards in Public life have sunk well below the required standard. The FIA should definately apply to this parcel of rogues.

In my book, the law should apply to everybody. MPs are no more than citizens who happen to be elected by other citizens within the bounds of parliamentary privilege. They need to remember who they are and who they represent. This sort of farrago underlines why politicians are not held in high esteem in this country.

Would you like your income to be disclosed to the public, or are you one of those people who want to know everyone Else's income and don't even tell your partner yours.
