In the Arvada area I would suggest:

The Butterfly Pavilion....it's off of US36 and 104th/Church Ranch

Heritage Square...it's in Golden which is pretty close and they have cool shops, restaurants, fishing, a bungee jumping type thing (don't know how to describe it!), kiddie rides, old fashioned photos, and a really cool slide that goes down the mountain

Flatirons Mall...it's not too far away in Broomfield and has great shops in and around it plus great restaurants

North Jeffco....skating rink, outdoor pool, outdoor volleyball court. It's on 58th and Garrison I think

There's also plenty of parks around with hiking and fishing.

And for the nightlife I would head downtown Denver which is only about 20-30 minutes away and there are a lot of great bars and restaurants. I would just park downtown in a well lit area and walk down 16th street mall...there is a free mall shuttle that goes up and down it and you can get to a lot of places that way.

Have fun, there is plenty to do and since it is a suburb of a big city, nothing is very far away.

Since you've been there before, you know it's just a suburb. Why don't you plan on going to Boulder. It's only a 30 min drive, lots of night life and things to do. I would start at Pearl Street Mall if I were you.

Visit Red Rocks Amphitheater while you visiting as well. Best place on earth to see a concert.

You should go to the mountains...cheap and fun!
Also the 16th Street Mall in Downtown Denver is fun.
Arvada is a suburb so if you want to have fun you'll need to travel outside of there.
