Oh, I SO agree ..... Star Trek is so much better.
Ok, the nerd fights back.
Nothing can ever surprise a science fiction fan; we've been there first only bigger and better.
Scientists readily admit that a lot of science fiction writers get their science uncannily accurate, in fact a device which has been likened to a tricorder has just been in the news as having been developed.
When the aliens land and you lot are running in circles like headless chickens, we shall be making First Contact and placing bets on which race they're going to be most like.

Hey, I like those - I guess that makes me nerd.
Just one counter question - Have you ever read Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter?? If not - I guess you won't know how good they really are.
But I'd rather be called a nerd a thousand times over than give away my copies of LOTR and HP. They give meaning to my dull life(career wise). Fantasy novels are the only thing keeping me sane.

Because Nerds are a $tupid stereotype that has been around for ages and the Nerds are the poeple who are not afraid to like what they want and do what they want ....And Star Wars is one of the best set of movies out there and i am not a nerd...They are the poeple who grow to be doing succesful things 'cause they did what they wanted "in a good way" ..I just had to get that of my chest and maybe they like fanstasy stuff because apart from school where they get teased continuesly and all that..Maybe fantasy games, movies and that is the only way where they can make there world what they want it to be and it's not full of the bullies...
```NERDS RERAZENT````
p.s. i am not a nerd..repeat with me...i am not a nerd...
I like star wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, but they are only the small part of my like list, don’t presume we are unhappy with our lives because we are able to sit back and suspend our belief and enjoy ourselves, and I don’t consider my self a nerd
As for the question they like it the same way some people like football ( every ones a kevin keegan etc.), it’s a time and place to be something you are not, this is not a bad thing, if you where never to look beyond the box that is the present, you would never have goals and achieve them, this allows them and us to thing outside the box, and if more of us did that, then the world would be a better place
Because it is fantasy, somewhere for them to escape to for a bit where (if only for an hour or two) they are no longer a nerd but a Jedi Knight! I wouldn't say only nerds that like Star Wars though. Plus, I would say a nerd is matter of opinion, what's nerdy to one may not be to another.
To each his or her own... what you consider to be ''crap'', someone else may consider to be great, and vice versa. Some like the escapism, other people will have different reasons.
I've never been a big Star Wars fan, but so what? I wouldn't be arrogant enough to try telling someone else not to! There's no need to call others ''nerds'' because they like something that you don't, mate.
I felt it necessary to state the obvious there!
They are not all nerds. But some can take it too far. But you sound a bit like a philistine. People can enjoy different types of things. Better than being obsessed with computer games or football.
How bitter! It's called escapism and imagination. If you don't care for it no one is forcing you to watch or read it.
And to appeal to your cynical nature, why not calculate how much cash the nerdy creativity of JK Rowling, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas brought in? In case you haven't notced, nerds run the world.
