Three nights ago. I am currently re-reading the first in the Star Trek 'Invasion' series and imagine my delight when I discovered a slight inaccuracy.
Chekov brings the Enterprise out of warp close to the alien ship and he tells Kirk that they are 2 A.U.s away from it which equates to 18 light minutes ......
....... Or does it? I think not.
An A.U. is a real unit of measurement, it is approximately 93 million miles, or the distance from the Earth to the Sun and the Sun is eight light minutes away from the Earth; I think you're starting to see where I'm going with this.
2 x 8 = 16 NOT 18. It might not seem a lot but the difference is 250 (plus change) over 23,000 miles and I wouldn't liked to be kicked that far, not even in space where forward momentum means that you would have to be kicked less.
Give my two colleagues their due, even though everyone I work with has my full permission to tell me to SHADDAP when they've had enough, they let me rant and even pretended to listen.

This morning. Some man tried to talk to me while I was having my coffee and at his attempt of starting a conversation with me, I went, "Ya." and "Oh?" and "Really?" and "I see." - he finally got the message and left my table.
