Maybe some people are too embarrassed about a topic to discuss it with someone they know. Maybe they are just looking to get a truly unbiased and honest opinion from someone that does not know them and won't have any sort of preconceived notions or prejudices against them.

Why are you so bothered by people looking for some advice under the relative anonymous safety of "Yahoo! Answers"? It's better than paying out a small fortune to all those ridiculous life coaches out there!

Fair question I suppose , but we are all different !
Some times this 'looking for advice' is a real genuine cry for help, some folk don't have reliable friends they can turn to.
Or others have enough inner strength ( or even enough confidence and intelligence to sort the problem out on their own !
In the meantime I see no real harm in it, as long as they dont turn into religious freaks I dont really care!

I scream that question in my head the whole time I'm in Y!A. I have a blast here, but it's so f*****n sad to see all the important life-decision questions some people post.

i think because sometimes you can doubt yourself-i think churchill once said, there are 3 sides to every story, your side my side and then theres the truth. its good to get other peoples opinions, you dont have to take their advice!

have you never moaned about anything to your mates and had a good old gossip about a boy/girl friend-its the same thing!!

There can't be that many helpless people. Can I ask him out, Should I talk to him? I don't think all their oars are in the water.

its to know other peoples opinions, doesn't necesserily mean that theyll follow the advice. just a second 3rd and 4rth opinion.
