Was just people watching the other day...
Some people like to wear all black. I don't believe it's only because it's practical. Then there are goths and other minorities who want to look striking and their message seems to be "don't come near to me". Inside a lot of them appear insecure, and afraid.

There are the ultra fashionable, the label lovers, etc. who in a way intimidate people. "Don't come near me".

Is the originality we want to establish with our attire alienating us from other people?
Should we look everydayish we'd be more approachable, but would that mean compromising our imagination and personality?

I was thinking of what we are doing on a subconsious level, I didn't think people generally would put sthg on and think, "Now anybody won't come near me". Though in a formal occasions we kind of do that, dress to intimidate people.
Just thinking aloud. Think of it psychologically!

I think most people wear what they like, what fits their personality, lifestyle and mood. I really think that what you wear shows others your personality. I also think some people dress to be obviously different from everyone else and they like the attention it brings them. I'm sure there are those who dress to keep others away as well. Clothes can also sometimes fool us about a person. They may wear a suit and tie to work, but on their off days wear biker gear and ride a Harley. You can't judge a book by it's cover. One of the best things I've ever learned from experience.

I dont' know why people say that to change one thing ultimately means a loss of a specific other thing, for instance here you have a loss of imagination and personality as the losses.

For others it is telling their children the truth about christmas and not wanting to take away their childs childhood imagination.

The interesting part is that one loss can be replaced by a number of other things and still create the former effect.

If everyone wore the same clothes, AND was hospitable to everyone, then everyone would help to create a better environment. They would not focus all their time on thinking about what the other's personality is like or on how to comment what a lovely garment. Instaed they would understand that they are the same, and would focus more on real world causes and occurances instead.

You could always join the new age flower children generation, as they tend to take care of this issue in an environmentally friendly manner.

Any others is a bit extrordinary but if you have the personality, go for it!

I dress for comfort most of the time. Even when I am dressed up to go somewhere. I do think that some people dress for shock value but shock value is in the eye of the beholder. I am a registered nurse and my husband works offshore. We ride Harley's and when we are dressed in our leather some people act as if we are Hell's Angels or something and I have actually had people move to the other side of a sidewalk when we come by. We aren't dressing in leather for shock value or to make a statement but rather for safety. So, as I said people will always wonder why some one has dressed a certain way and may not try to understand that person. They will continue to just make assumptions based on their own personal bias.

I think it means different things to different people. Some want to look different. Some want to fit in with a certain group. Some want to scare people away, or dress a certain way for the shock value. Some just - gasp - like the look.

personally, i think labels are stupid.
to say that that person's personality and hobbies, interests and dislikes fall under one category is degrading and stereotypical.
another thing, goths and "emos" are meant to stand out because they wear black attire... well theres are all group of them who are "nonconforming" and not tb and follow each other ..they are jus contradicting the whole point of why they choose to stand out in the first place. they are just following other people.
which is again trend following and everything.
the whole things demented
