I am not currently on birth control pills, I am going on vacation in a few days and am going to get my period in a few days. I reallllllly dont want to get my period on my trip and my friend gave me a pack of YAZ. i have been on yasmin previously without any complications. Can i start the pack now and prevent my period from coming or can i let my period happen for 2 days and then take the pill and continue for the rest of the month? is it safe?

If you start the pill now it probably will stop your period unless it was already 'on its way' as the pill tricks the body into thinking it's pregnant. It won't, however, protect you from pregnancy until you've taken it for about 3-4 weeks. It's worth a try.

It's safe to go up to three months without a period (My doctor informed me of this when I picked up my newest batch of birth control -- I can't wait for that to happen!).

If you take it to delay your period I don't see any complications.

I would take it now to stop it from happening until you come back.

I would recommend getting in touch with your OB/GYN or a primary care dr if you don't have an OB/GYN to get their thoughts on this situation as well before you start doing anything to try and delay your period.
