I recommend for thrillers, try Robert Bloch(he wrote Psycho), Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. In medieval time I can't recommend the book series by George R.R. Martin enough called "A song of Ice and Fire"

Thrillers?
GO for
1. Dan Brown's Angels and Demons or the Da vinci Code for historical thrillers.
2.Or Dan Brown's Digital Fortress or the Deception Point for tech based thrillers.

Or go for Robin cook's toxin, coma, shock , seizure etc,.If you like medical thrillers.

Tobias Wolff is top of my mind right now, as I've just finished some short stories by as well as a few novels. These slim volumes are easy to carry and with a long commute you can finish them in a day or two.

The Barrack's Thief, This Boy's Life & In Pharoah's Army to start with.

I would recommend magazines over books, because they are easier to start and stop.

When I lived a long way from work, I could read a lot of work related information on the way to and from work, it was great.

There is a story called Gilgemesh you might like. I don't believe they know who the author is. I read it in college during one of those courses where we read the Iliad, Odyssey, the Bible, etc. It is the only one that I really liked.

What about the books, written by John Grisham.
And if you love medieval times, there are books written by Diana Gabaldon, I don't know the title in English but they are great! All of her books.
