Depending upon the size of the infestation, I would use chemical means - either having it professionally sprayed - which would probably last longer - or spraying it myself with something like Raid.
Following up the chemical means, I would use cinnamon around the house as a deterrent to having them come in. And keep a close watch for new ant holes - pour a bit of boric acid and let them take it back to the new nest - it'll kill 'em all.

if you are looking for a cheep solution, use baking soda (or even salt), try to push as much inside the nest then pour hot water.
It will dissolve the baking soda, thus allowing it to go deeper.
Remember ants love sweets

pour cornmeal on the opening of the hills . the ant eats the cornmeal but they cand digest it and they die. good luck .
