Well this is the question that has been making the rounds ever since India crashed out of the world cup.....
My personal opinion is that ....though their basic salary is pretty normal for a sportsman playing this game, I think something must be made to curb the number of endorsements made by a single cricketer.
For example, an A-list cricketer[Sachin Dravid,Ganguly etc] earn about 50 lakhs per annum in basic salary, their endorsements cross several crores.
This unfortunately reflects on their game, and they underperform. If performance based incentives are given, then they will be motivated to perform better.
A standing example for performance based raises is Matthew Hayden....after his spectacular show at WC 07, his salary was doubled. This motivates other cricketers to perform in his region, and the team works better.
So. I am of the opinion that though the basic salary of an Indian cricketer is not astronomical, BCCI should find ways to curb the number of endorsements made by individual cricketers.....

I defenitely feel that they are over paid. In order to improve the performance of the players, their payment structure to be linked to performance and not based on senior or junior.
