Thats 2 000 000 000 000 000 000 dollars

thats enough to remove poverty from America, rebiuld all schools and ensure no child is left behind in educatiuon, it would fix welfare for the next 75 years, it would create housing for 3 million families. It would do so much to make you a real civilised superpower.

You now have to pay for it.

So has the war been worth it?

Every night I watch the news, as they release the names of those killed (18 a day with an average age of 22) we spend time in silence. They are kids what are they fighting for - A ****** lie!!!!

Everyone knows the flag was planted into the floor of a movie studio. And sorry but my "pathetic" (as you call it) country Australia is not a third world country, just something else you are totally wrong about.

Worth every last penny!

"kids"? pul-eeez! Stop with the melodramatics already.
We have an all-voulenteer military comprised of adults aged 18+

If the news bothers you, turn off your t.v. this is no reason to betray your country. And if you are a foreigner, you have no place to comment on the affairs of the USA in the first place.

From my perspective I do not think there has been a "just" war since WW II.

To say the US has overstepped its bounds numerous times to keep its economy humming ( was that an oil tanker I just saw roll in?..) along is an understatement.

Young men, women, and children being killed, and injured, not to mention the psychological ramifications that will exist, long after the war has ended, how can we say it is worth it, when are being there turned out to be perpetuated by an untruth?

And to the gentleman that mentioned that the 18 year olds were "adults" serving. I barely know any mature 30 something year olds in the US, let alone any 18-22 year olds in the US. They are naive and gullible true, but hardly well informed adults.

You must be confusing the United Sates with a Utopian society if you believe the call of the day would be to rebuild schools, fix welfare, provide affordable health care, and affordable housing...yes that would almost be too spiritual.

Is any war justified? It is normally one nations greed against another nations insecurity.I wonder if the world would be a different place had Saddam been left in power. I doubt it. I believe the underlying reason for the war was oil not the removal of a dictator. Surely Iran, Syria and northern Pakistan are the hotbeds for terrorists. Therefore if the war was all about terrorism why have these nations not been targetted? The invasion was a success but no-one considered the aftermath. As to the cost any war is going to be expensive but should it eventually lead to a more stable area in the Middle East perhaps it is justified. In war people die. Soldiers join up to fight and as such the result will be that there is loss of life. Whether a war is justified is a matter of opinion. Did the ordinary people of Britain think it was justifiable to go to war with Germany because Poland had been invaded in 1939? Most of the ordinary people at that time would not even have known where Poland was. That war made Britain bankrupt. Was it worth it and the enormous loss of life? Democratic countries elect the political party of their choice and that party makes major decisions on behalf of the nation. I am sure the decision to invade Iraq was not taken lightly but personally I think it was a grave mistake.

Anyone who says you can't question a political decision is a traitor to democracy. People who say, support the troops, but don't question why they are there, are the real traitors of their country.

War and the military has always sucked a lot out of the social security programs in the US. The vietnam war ended "The new deal" that began during the great depression.

The war in Iraq has been a failure. It has not and is unlikely to achieve the goals of the Bush administration. Both what they have said publicly and what they say in private.

America is unlikely to easily control Iraqi oil, nor has it dealt effectively with terrorism. It certainly has ended the williness for international governments to follow the US to fight terrorism.

The reasons behind this is difficult, but the hope was the removal of a dictator by force, followed by the creation of a democratic government which would lead to a new era in the middle east.

For 2 Trillion, it would be worth it.

Also, the control of oil would have lead to greater world stability.

Because it failed it is not worth it.

Also the cost is not really 2 Trillion. Much of that money would be spend on the military anyway. So the actual cost of the war is hidden behind journalistic statistics.

What did you watch that thing on PBS?

I would have just offered 2 trillion dollar reward on Osama Bin Laden's head.

That's lot of money to spend without catching the guy who got us all wacky.

May we could have just bought Iraq for 2 trillion dollars. That'll be good deal.

Absolutaly not.I keep hearing people say we're fighting for our freedoms. What freedoms did the iraqi's take from us that we should have to fight for.I'm still free to mow my lawn no iraqi took it from me.There not over here telling me what to do,but we're over there telling them what to do.

I thought osama bin ladin was who we were fighting.
