1. Its history, from early days to present, including the Soviet period when it was known as Leningrad.
2. Weather patterns, especially during the long Russian winters.
3. Accessibility. How best to get there, and what to see once there. Also, good day trips, and what else to see that is reasonably easy to travel to.
4. Restaurants, hotels, night life, how to get around the city, and other amenities for tourists.
5. Safety issues. How safe a city is it? Crime problems? How to avoid being robbed or worse, and how to contact police in an emergency.
In other words, pretty much what I'd ask if I were visiting any other major world city. Love to go there some day.
