In my backyard in California I have a garden shed in my backyard that someone offered to rent out as a place to sleep. The garden shed doesn't have a restroom and has no windows. The flooring is cement with rugs.It has electricity and a heater as well as a door with a lock. Is it illegal to rent out a garden shed? The person interested is a 20 year old girl.

The girl doesn't cook. She claims that she can use the restroom inside the house.

I feel sorry enough for the girl that I would be willing not to charge her to live in the shed at all.

I seriously doubt it.....There are no sanitation facilities or bathing facilities.
There is no way to cook!...
If the girl is homeless why dont you help her find a way to help herself.?

This would be illegal. For a place to be offered for rent, it must have offer bathroom facilities. Without a bathroom, the shed cannot be classified as a liveable structure. If you were to rent it to this girl, you would be in serious trouble if you were caught.

I can't imagine why she would want to rent your shed as a place to sleep with no bathroom

It would have to meet certain city health and safety standards, which I doubt that the shed will.

I can't believe that you would accept money from a twenty year old girl who probably has nowhere else to go.
She must be desperate for shelter.

Pretty sure it's illegal. Plus it's probably against the zoning laws for your property...

No.
Use lipstick to write word 't-r-o-u-b-l-e' on bathroom mirror.
You need this in your face every day it seems.
