The most well known team equestrian sport using a ball is, of course, Polo. There are lesser known ball sports, played on horseback, too. Horseball is a fast and exciting team sport played on horseback. Initiated in France during the 1970s, Horseball has quickly spread in Europe, becoming more and more popular. Since 1992 eight nations have competed for the annual European Horseball Championship. Horseball is now starting to be played all around the world. It's played with a larger ball with handles, and is a little like football or rugby.
Another ball game played on horseback is Polocrosse. It’s like playing lacrosse on horses. Or it’s like playing polo, except with lacrosse sticks. It is a sport that is increasing in popularity worldwide.

The sport is called polo, and it is considered by many historians to be the world's oldest equestrian sport. There are records that indicate that the game was invented by the ancient Persians ( the people who inhabited the region that includes the nations of Iraq and Iran in the modern era) between 400 and 600 years before the birth of Christ. These people called the game Pulu- and it was very popular with the soldiers and warriors of that age. This tendency continued on for many centuries, and polo eventually became one of the most popular of all the military style sports. Today, polo exists as a professional sport in many countries, including the US and Great Britain, where it is very popular. Polo is also a recognized NCAA sport at the collegiate level in the US- there are a number of universities and colleges that have nationally ranked teams and clubs. Polo is a sport for all ages and riding abilities-I have seen children as young as seven competing and playing in tournaments. It's a family sport as well. Hope this answers your question. PS: Polo is NOT like golf on horseback. It is a contact sport, and there are reasons why people who play it wear helmets, knee pads , shin guards, and boots. Polo ponies have no manes, either- this prevents the mallet and reins from getting tangled in the event of a fall or accident on the field.

POLO! Wow! fun game! Played it as a young girl with my appaloosa/Arab mare and an Ocracoke pony as backup.
Played a lot like soccer - get the ball through the other's goal.
Not a game for sissies tho -
Fun thing - yes, the crowd is expected to stomp in the divots between chukkars.

Horse soccer! It's becoming more and more popular and it's a really fun game. I play on a team with my draft horse. It's really great exercise for the horses too.
I'm sure you probably meant polo but I thought I'd throw this out too since it's a newer sport but like I said becoming very popular.

I'm sure I've seen ridden horses backing up to a huge ball and kicking it around an indoor arena but whether it was a sport or some kind of circus type act, I'm not sure
