It is fun, I am an Amsterdammer myself and loved it.
But very few people know there is another brewery in Amsterdam that does a tour.
Brouwerij 't IJ Funenkade 7 does a tour every friday afternoon at 16.00 hrs (not advertised on English Website )
No reservations can be made just show up and get in line.
20 people max., I only recommend this for people who
really love high quality micro brewed beers.
It is in an old windmill, which once also was a public bathhouse, the beers are akin to Belgian Beers as brewed
by monks for centuries,
Warning !!, These are Real beers not the usual commercial
crap ( 5/6 % ) or exports to US ( 3/4 %) so even the Lagers
are likely to be 8/9% and special dark beers up to 13 %.
So take it easy.
Look it up on the internet, or ask the tourist office.

It is fun (and it is popular too). Heineken is brewed in Zoetermeer, but started in Amsterdam (1868). So it has a rich history and it is interesting to see al things about brewing beer. I think it is better than many other beer factory tours, so go and enjoy!
It costs 11 euro. You can park your car in the parking garage, but that is costly. There are also tramways close (16, 24). There is a canal boat stop near the Heineken experience. It is in the Amsterdam neigbourhood De Pijp, which is also nice to visit. The Heineken experience is closed on mondays.

Don't believe the free beer answer. The most expensive beer I every had was the Heineken I had at the Heineken brewery. There's so much else to see in Amsterdam why would you want to go here? Breweries are a dime a dozen.

I've been there with friends and it's really fun. But select the late afternoon tour if you can. I became a Heineken fan after the visit.

No, much too big. Go the smaller factories, their beer is better too.

Yep.
It is fun, and educational.
If you can, visit on your birthday (i did).
They give you a special beermug if you can prove it. ( since you are required to carry ID, that shouldn`t be an issue).
It`s been a while since i was there, so things might have changed - but it is nice to see anyway.
As flyingdustman said, Brouwerij het IJ is also very interesting.
