Whenever I sign in, a message pops up (something along the lines of 'connection not possibe' - sorry I forget exactly). I've now given the computer a complete clean and gone back to IE6. This has only been happening for the past month or so.

I've tried IE7 again and the message I get is:- "Error Connecting to Tiscali Broadband - Error 619 A connection to the remote computer could not be established so the port used for this connection was closed."

Yes I have been having the same problem when I open the browser - it does actually connect to the internet, but the homepage sits on top of another page which says "This page cannot be displayed.....etc".

You do not log in to IE, you log in to your ISP account.
I don't understand why you have gone back to IE6 in order to solve a problem. I use IE7 and have had no problems with it and I suspect the majority of people have had no problems.

Bear in mind that you do not need to be connected to the Internet to browse HTML documents, so you should have tried open an HTML document offline to see whether you had the same error message and then you would have found the problem only occurs when you connect to the Internet.

It would have been helpful if could have listed the exact error message.

I'm confused. IE7 is a browser and you don't have to sign in to it. Do you mean signing in to Yahoo?

If you can't make IE work, then download Firefox. It's a much better browser all round. http://www.mozilla.com
