Everytime my mac G5 goes to sleep it some how automatically shuts down after awhile. Why?

Check your settings in your control panel. Maybe you have it set to shut down after a certain amount of time, or the default setting could be set that way.

We will assume your Mac G5 is a PowerMac G5, not an iMac G5. The most common cause of improper sleep function is added hardware that is not fully compatible with the G5 sleep. This has nothing to do with whether the added hardware works correctly. It is only about sleep. It could be an added PCI expansion card, an added hard drive or added RAM.

To test this, remove the added hardware to see if the sleep function returns to normal. If it does, you have two choices: give up on using sleep or change to some other brand / model of card / drive / RAM.
