I am 14 and i just finished 7th grade. As you see, I'm year late. Next year i supposed to go to 8th but I want to skip to 9th grade.

Academicaly, my GPA is 4.0 and im in SAS(School for Advanced Studies, higher than magnet). I have the highest grades in all classes. 7th grade was so easy to me and i don't think 8th will be any harder.

Like in the beginning of semester, all the do is mostly review so even if I skip i don't think it'll will be much of a problem. I took pre-algebra for 7th grade. I personaly want to take geometry for 9th instead of algebra 1. i speak in 3 languages fluently.

In some ways, 8th grade will be more beneficial than skipping. But i don't know. Im in Leadership (something like student council) and i have a good school reputation. I won't be there in graduation and other stuff but i don't know what is more worth of doing.

Please give me an advice. Thank You

Btw, I don't really have friends in this grade. All my friends are in grade higher. And another thing is that lots of people are making fun of me because i am a year behind. I have never flunked a grade it's just that i went to school late.

I would skip if it won't hurt you academically because that way you can be with people your own age.

I think what you need to do is discuss this with your parents and your school counsellor in depth so you can get a good look at what would be required of you to skip grades. Sometimes, certain classes cannot be 'skipped' - and it may not be as simple as it seems in the beginning. For example, you probably cannot take geometry without taking algebra. Algebra is the foundation of geometry, and pre-algebra doesn't cut it. However, if you can test out of algebra, you may be able to do it. My school did not allow this sort of thing. Yours may. But it certainly /won't/ be as simple as just enrolling in ninth instead of 8th. You'll have to prove you can do the work when prerequisites are required.

Really, you need to discuss this with people who can give you better details on your personal situation, rather than a group of strangers on the web. Good luck to you either way!

I can see why you are having a hard time with this decision.

I think it may be hard to miss graduation. You have a good chance of graduating at the top of your class.

You don't mention if you feel challenged in your present grade.

There is no doubt that you will do well in 9th grade. You sound very intelligent and mature.

Since the first part of 8th grade is review, is there any way you can go to 9th grade on a trial basis, with the option of returning to 8th if it isn't what you expect?

What do your parents think about this? They would probably have to agree for you to skip.

No one , especially those who don't know you, can make that decision for you, except your parents and you. It sounds like you have thought a lot about the pros and cons.

Good luck ! I hope the choice you make is one that turns out good for you..

I skipped 4th grade, but what you learn in 8th grade is way more important. Is there a way that you can make up 8th grade during summer school? if so, then you should do that. if not, then its your opinion. if you think that you can catch up, then yes. I think that if you can get a 4.0 GPA you can also skip a grade. im in 9th grade. before we learn anything new, we always review, so i think that you can skip it. Good luck!!

if you only want to skip a grade because people are making fun of you, then don't skip it. you will reget it later.

now i don't know exactly how your school works. if possible try getting back to 9th grade courses in your better subjects and the ones that aren't as much continuation, ie socials/history. but theres no need to skip just for the sake of skipping. if you've always been one year behind theres no reason to leave you friends behind. if your bored go ahead in the classes your bored in. and if you graduate early or late so be it.

This is a bad idea, and in the long run, it will hurt you. At your age, everything that you learn in school is important.
