I have been having pain in my side for a little over a month now.
Where the pain is sometimes moves, when it first started it was in my lower right side, really close to my hipbone. Now it has moved up more to under my ribcage and it gets more severe after I have eaten. Sometimes it is in my left side as well, also under my ribcage. My white blood cell count is also high. I went to a surgeon who thinks it is most likely my gallbladder. My sonogram came back normal and so I had another test done the other day, I forgot what it's called, but they gave me something to make my gallbladder fill up and then made it contract. I should get the results back in a couple days but does anyone know what exactly this test will tell me and what they might recommend for me? And if it isn't my gallbladder, what else could it be?

I do know that it is not appendicitis, they have checked that several times, and I don't have a UTI or kidney infection or anything, my urine and bloodwork are clean.

Sounds like your gallbladder. I had surgery for this many years ago. If it is your gallbladder the pain will continue to worsen and you will feel nausea and vomiting will occur as it gets worse. Your surgeon will decide by the test he runs and if it is gallbladder, surgery is the only cure. However, today they can remove the gallbladder with laproscopic surgery which is minimal and you can go home that night, if you do well. Good luck to you.

It sounds to me like gallbladder pain, and that must be what they suspected as well initially, since they did the ultrasound and lab work (the ultrasound would show gallstones; their are certain labs that will be abnormal in the presence of gallbladder dysfunction). If they determine the gallbladder to be fine, they will usually treat for reflux (I had symptoms that my docs were SURE was my gallbladder, but turned out to be severe acid problems that I needed surgery to correct). There are a couple of other tests that they can do to look at your gallbladder function, the most specific would be a nuclear medicine test called a HIDA scan (there is another name for it that escapes me at the moment, but it's the same thing). It tests how your gallbladder empties. That may be the next step they are looking at doing. You could ask about it. I didn't think I had acid reflux either; they ended up scoping my esophagus and stomach when all of my gallbladder tests were normal and found severe irritation and erosion due to acid and I was completely clueless. In fact, I had always said before that that I had a stomach of steel and could eat anything, because I NEVER had heartburn, so boy was I surprised! Don't rule that out as a possibility, either. They may be wanting to do a similar scope to take a look at your stomach and esophagus to see if there's any acid irritation or an ulcer present. Good luck, hope this helps.

I had my gallbladder removed. The signs I had was real bad acid reflux and heartburn it seemed like on a daily basis. But when I had pain I felt like I was having what people describe as a heart attack. I'm sure every-ones body reacts differently. If it is your gallbladder I had four little incisions I was bruised for several days after the surgery but other than that I was off the pain meds within 2-3 days. And if I had to do it again I would go through the surgery I feel 100% better its worth it.

The gall bladder is located on the right side, under the liver. I was going to suggest that you contact a Dr., but you've already done that. Good boy!. Now it's time to hurry up and wait for the lab results and that can be the hardest part.
