If you had a choice, what topic would you pick to write about Lucille Ball and the development and regulation of television. What would be your thesis. My paper needs to be 12 pages long.I am just looking for ideas while I finish reading books about her. My biggest worry is that I won't be able to prove my thesis (which i am still developing- but definitely comparing and contrasting two biographies ) in 12 pages. Thanks a lot for any input!

She can be considered the First Lady of Comedy Television. She was in a biracial marriage and that makes her a bit of a pioneer as well. God bless LUCY!

Hello!

This would be an enjoyable subject to research for me because Lucille Ball played a big role in my sister's and my childhood years. We were allowed to stay up later on the nights I Love Lucy came on and never missed a rerun during summer vacation. I still buy my sister an I Love Lucy gag gift once in a while.

If you can compare and contrast two biographies from within this series, one logical choice would be Lucy and Ricky. There were lots of contrasts in the characters they played with Lucy's zany tricks and Ricky's "let's stick wth the status quo" approach to life. There must have been contrasts in their real-life relationship too because the announcement of their divorce plans shocked Americans, still new to TV, who had followed them through the birth of two children.

The other logical choice would be Lucy and Ethel with a comparison and contrast of the characters they played as well as their personalities in real life. I believe that Ethel and Fred continued to appear on The Lucy Show long after Ricky was no longer part of it.

Here are a couple of sources to check into:

Have fun doing the paper!!!

I think the birth of Ricky was a show that played an important role in the regulation of TV. As I recall, Lucy was really concerned about what could be aired -- so were the censors. I think they worked together with the regulators, church leaders, and many other parts of society. they didn't want to offend -- those were interesting times. Working together is not today's standard.

I remember there was a lot of material developed on that show's importance.

Lucille Ball developed a larger place for women in the film industry, while I believe managing herself or her own corporation (which I am failing to remember the name of). Even after her split from her Husband Dezi she was still a famous actress and didn't need to lean on her husband to still succeed in the film industry. Placing her as a famous comedian that will never be forgotten.

Lucille Ball is a long story. I think the best topic would be how she worked so hard to be famous not to mention being with her husband 24 hours. Not to mention she married out of her race which wasnt common in those days. good luck

The topic I would choose is the relationship/family life between her and Desi.
I found some valuable info on Lucille down below.

She (and Desi) were trailblazers in TV.

When the networks wouldn't air I Love Lucy because of the interracial marriage, they funded it themselves. Additionally, they made breakthroughs in tv filming: three camera system, lighting grids, etc.

When other old TV shows weren't getting syndication money, she was, thanks to Desilu Productions.

She may have been the butt of the show, but she helped break many barriers.

Its not a thesis of course, but just a few snapshots of what she did fot tv.

I did my own research paper on her, and I got an a-. My thesis was that she changed television forever, for several reasons. She changed the way television was filmed, she changed what was acceptable for television, and she inspired women to accomplish more in their lives, both in television shows and in real life.

what about the founding and development of Desilu productions by her first husband Desi Arnaz Jr and Lucille Ball?

Correction: Desi Arnaz was Cuban. Cubans are Hispanic, but they are also white. Hispanic, or Latino, is the culture. White is the race. So--- their marriage was cross-cultural but not mixed race. Still a "first" in tv shows, I believe.
