If you're looking for a prepared food, check the label for vitamin C content. Vitamin C is water soluble, so it's important in fish food. Flakes tend to leach it out fastest. I've found Wardley's tropical crumbles to be highest in vitamin C so far http://www.aquariumguys.com/crumbles.html I also like shrimp pellets, they've got a fair amount, and fish seem to like them as a treat.

I also recommend frozen foods--bloodworms, beefheart, omnivore foods...Don't forget veggies if you have any omnivores. If you're feeling adventurous, you could start a culture of whiteworms.

You will know when you're overfeeding by checking your nitrate levels. Every other day feeding is a good rule of thumb. Always research each individual species nutritional needs, first.

They should all like bloodworms and brine shrimp (look for ones enriched with HUFAs or Omega 3 fatty acids for better nutrition) for starters. You can buy these freeze dried or frozen, but I prefer the frozen. There's also frozen mysis shrimp and frozen gammarus if the fish are large enough to eat them. I tried the white mosquito larvae, but my fish didn't care for those. They ate all the others mentioned, though.

You can use these as much as one feeding a day, or only one or two times a week. Just replace their regular food with a similar amount, or judge how much they eat in about 2-3 minutes. The frozen types come in cubes, so that one cube in some tank water, and add it to the tank. If it's too much, you can cut the cubes with a knife, or just use a portion of what you thaw, and refrigerate the rest for a future feeding. If it's not enough, use multiple cubes.

you can give them frozen and live brine shrimp, Daphne, bloodworm. try tiny pieces of cucumber. Put live plant in the tank, fish enjoy nibbling at them so be prepared to change them often.
I could not keep dwarf gourami with tiger bars. Lots of fighting.

You can ffed them brine shrimp twice a week and then blood worms twice a week, one frozen cube of blood worms and brine shrimp that you cultivated just enough for them to eat within two minutes
