they are truly scared of what they might find, they stick their heads in the sand and hide from illness till they are so sick they cant do anything about it.

Because they may tell you something bad. It's the same reason my wife ignores the grinding noise coming from the brakes on her car. She thinks if the sound goes away so does the problem.

Pride. We want to believe that we know everything about ourselves. That if something hurts, than we can fix it. We get so stubborn, that it can truly cost us in the long run.
