All I hear is people talking about Cicadas...whats the big deal. And are they really going to attack people?

No they will not attack. They will make a lot of noise. They leave " empty shells " of their bodies around as they grow. There are several large colonies of them in different areas. They dig into the ground and stay there for 17 years and then return.

The lowly Cicada is a Caterpillar like worm that lives in the ground for about 17 years. It's biggest peak happens to be this year, unfortunately. I say this because, it's an ugly little creature that has never learn to fly right, it mostly crawls, in droves. Right, the night of the Cicada.
It has red eyes a green body and a kind of transparent body with clear wings and it makes a loud rasping noise that can be heard for literally miles, calling for a mate.
Although it only lives , say, overnight, they don't die all at once so, it may take days for all of them to die. The make a good smorgasbord for the birds and other insects the eat them. They also make a good mulch and fertilizer for gardens.
