i joined a sorority despite really wanting to join AKA. since they didn't have it at my school, i decided to just join the one i'm in. i'm transferring to a black college where they definitely have AKA and not the one i'm in. I REALLY want to be a member of AKA and even while pledging i felt like the one i'm in is definitely not for me. if i drop this one, can still join AKA when i transfer? what are the rules with pan-hellenic council and can they make an exception depenind on the sorority and chapters?

Wow- Speechless!!! This is why it is IMPERATIVE that when choosing an organization, you choose what's in your heart. And if the school does NOT have a chapter, then my suggestion is that you transfer or wait until grad chapter.

Sweetie I am really sorry you did not pledge the org of your choice. You stated that you are a member of another NPHC, and although I can't speak for all of them, I will say that if you are a delta, then are a Delta for Life, and you will not be able to join AKA.

Try to see if you can find some love for the org you pledge, and I am wondering, why did you settle anyway? Did you want to be greek that bad?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I agree with my sistergreek of Delta!

A woman who is or was a part of ANY NPHC or NPC organization is will NOT become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

I am sorry if you regret your decision, but the Constitution and Bylaws of my Sroroity states that you can not become a member. And since you say you are a member of an NPHC sorority I am pretty sure you all have similar rules.

Since you do not feel righ in your current sorority see if you can relinquish your membership. They will probably be happy to let you go since you are not dedicated to their purpose. You should really contact your corporate HQ and tell them that you want out. There is no way I would want to hold you in my org and you don't care. You are the one who to the vow.

Again....No you can not join AKA ever. If you should slip through the cracks and eventually are found out your membership would be revoked and that is embarassing. SO save yourself the grief let the legacy of your current sorority go and forget AKA.
Sorry

In most cases, once you are already initiated into a social sorority, you cannot pledge another one.

In the rare scenerios where you can join another organization, it will depend on what "umbrella group" your original sorority belonged to: It cannot be the same as AKA's. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. belongs to the National Pan-hellenic Council (NPHC), so if your original sorority is in it, you can pretty much forget about rushing AKA.

Addendum:
Sorry...since your original sorority is in NPHC--the same "league" as AKA, there is no legal way you can ever join.

Contact the pan-hellenic council at the school to which you will be transferring. You might be okay if they don't have the sorority you are in now at that school, but you really need to check it with them. Perhaps instead of joining a sorority you didn't feel good about you should have contacted AKA about setting up a chapter on your campus. I still have trouble believing that you can't ever leave and join another one if you made a mistake, though. That would be worse than most religions!

Sorry honey, sadly to say that once you join a sorority, you are in that sorority for life. If the one you're in now is not for you, then you should not have pledged at all. My godsister did that and regretted it at first, but now she loves her sorority with all her heart. Maybe it'll grow on you.
