Yes there is, it's called a "loop detector". It works the same way traffic lights know when cars approach and when the flunkie at McDonald's know that a car is in the drive-thru. They are available for home installations from most better security companies.

Find a small (local to you security company) that will do custom installations. I don't think you'll be able to get Brinks (or similar) to do anything like this.

There are many types, but the simple way of setting one up DIY is to use one or more Friedland/Super Switch wireless PIR's SS6500 and an indoor Evo chime unit. Just make sure they are on the same frequency as this has changed recently. There will be no wiring required, and you can use as many movement detectors (PIR's) and chimes as you want. I've had one in my driveway for over six years.

Sounds great! I wish their was... the best thing I can think of is "motion" detector lights. They are pretty easy to install and you can get the kit at your nearest Home Depot, Lowes, or favorite hardware store. Bright lights, especially at night detour people from coming into the yard.. in this case the driveway. You can install them all around your house if you wanted. Best of luck to you and your family!
