I will be flying in to go to a concert on a weekend. Should I just take taxis everywhere, rent a car, or is there other public transp. option I should take?

Here's the scoop.

While parking in Dallas may be difficult for some folks not used to parking in a city. It is NOT a difficult place to drive in nor to park in.

Unfortunately, TX drivers as a whole are not in the top 45 or so states in the country for driving skill/courtesy, so you'll just have to keep your eyes peeled for stupid maneuvers and be aware folks have a difficulty merging in this state.

That aside, car rentals in Dallas are very cheap comparatively and a taxi to get downtown would be close to $40 just one way.

For your concert, it's about 30 miles from the airport. Very simple. Just exit the south exit of the airport, head on 183 east to 35E south. When you get downtown, follow 30 east (keep moving left in lanes as they keep disappearing off of the right), and exit at 2nd ave.

Follow that exit and now you're close. Follow it until it bends to the right, follow the main road around Fair park (you'll see McD's on right) and follow signs to your concert!

Have fun!

Depending on where you were gonna be staying it may be cheaper and easier just to find an airport shuttle into downtown and then take cabs back and forth around downtown.
The reason renting a car sucks is because finding parking in Dallas is like finding humble caring people in Dallas..it won't happen.
If you want to get a better idea / answer, just call the hotel that you'll be staying at, ask them how far they are from the local stuff (smirnoff, deep ellum, greenville ave, etc.) and they should be able to tell you whats around the area.
One more thing...unless you're from Dallas or have lived here long enough to practice, chances are you'll enjoy the highways and byways here about as much as we'll enjoy having you on them...which is very little.
Anyway
Which show are you going too...I can give you a ride if you buy me a nine dollar beer.

Good Luck

Definitely rent a car. Public transportation is a joke here, and taxis are nearly non-existent. Driving from the airport to the concert won't be all that bad.

Rent a car. Taxi's are hard to find, You usually have to call Yellow Cab and wait for them to show up.
Smirnoff isn't in the best of neighborhoods to be waiting for a taxi or public transportation.

You should definitely rent a car. I visited Dallas a couple of years ago, during Thanksgiving. I don't think it's possible to get around the city without a car. In that sense, it's kinda like South Florida. There's sooooo much you can do, but everything is so spread out. You definitely need a car to get around.

Fort Worth is 30 miles west of Dallas. There are attractions in Arlington and Grand Praiie area. Timeing would be a big concern as traffic can slow or stall. There should be traveler brochures of attractions near the car rental or any hotel lobby.

You willl spend less renting a car then you will on taxis. Plus waiting on taxis is a pain in the kiester here. Enjoy your stay.
