4% x $45 = 4/100 x $45 = .04 x $45 = $1.80

There is a calculator in your "accessories" (click Start, Programs, Accessories, Calculator)

You can also type an equation like a question in the Search window of Google and it will give you an answer, but it does not show the work.

Here's a trick that will help you from now on.

In math, the word "of" means "times."

For example, 10% of 20 means 10% times 20, or

0.10 * 20. The answer is 2!

In your case, the answer is 0.04 * 45, or 1.8.

You can also use this trick in more complex problems. For example:

20 is what percent of 200?

Translate that to......

20 = ____% * 200

Use a letter to represent the blank percentage (just for fun)...

20 = y * 200,

Divide both sides by 200....

20/200 = (y * 200)/200

Then simplify....

0.10 = y

y = 10%
