Philadelphia is best known for two separate musical movements.
The first was from 1957 to 1963, the early years of rock and roll. Famous artists from Philly include Danny & The Juniors ("At The Hop"), Frankie Avalon ("Venus"), Bobby Rydell ("Wild One"), Fabian ("Turn Me Loose"), Chubby Checker ("The Twist"), The Dovells ("The Bristol Stomp") and The Tymes ("So Much In Love").
The second was from 1971 to 1977, when "Philly Soul" music was popular. Artists include Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes ("If You Don't Know Me By Now"), Billy Paul ("Me And Mrs. Jones"), The Stylistics ("You Make Me Feel Brand New"), The O'Jays ("Love Train") and The Three Degrees ("When Will I See You Again").
