okay, i was at the dentist once and she told me she was persian and i replied with, 'yea..you do look arabic'. she wasn't insulted or anything, but was that wrong? do you think she was insulted inside even though she didn't show it outside? D:

You could have been right. A lot of Iranian people call themselves Persian, but they're still Arabic.

Yeah bad move. The Arabic language and the Persian language aren't even in the same language tree!!! And trust me she probably was a little bit insulted but she will forgive you because Americans are generally really ignorant of other cultures.

Arabs and Persians are different ethnic groups.

If you get used to seeing Arabs and Persians you will eventually notice that they do look different.

I don't see why she would be upset it's not like you said it in a mean way or anything. You just thought she looked like a different ethnicity (I think that's the correct term) than what she really is. Happens to people all the time no reason to get upset.

she probably wasn't as insulted as much as frustrated that you don't know the difference.
