I doubt Scarlett would ever become as common as, say, Mary, or even Christina or Brittany.

No, Scarlett is not weird. Now, I am not sure if you are a Christian or not. Anyway, other than the fact that it is a color, the word scarlet also refers to the color of the robe that was placed on Jesus (Matt 27:27-28). (FYI - purple, if you read Mark.)

On a lighter note, it is definitely not as strange as the name Espn -- given to a boy child by his father simply because the father is a big fan of... yes...you guessed it -- E.S.P.N. From what I was told, the mother was very angry and gave the father 3 months to find another child with the same name or else it was time for a name change. Turns out there happens to be atleast one more kid whose name is Espn!!!

Now, I don't think 'Scarlett' is weird. My sister named her second daughter 'Scarlett' back in 1997. I thought at first what was she thinking, but she LOVED the name. To me 'Scarlett' is from 'gone with the wind', such a brat, and spoiled rotten, but at the same time, she's very sensitive and needs a lot of attention and approval. My niece is a RED head which may make matters worse...but in then end, she does need a lot attention but at the same she needs a lot of strong and firm guidance. I truly believe children turn into the meaning of their name, so be careful....this little miss Scarlett may run you for your time and energy...my sister and her husband are exhausted...but you can be firm and extra loving to meet all her needs and you may have an easier Scarlett on your hands. All names that you think aren't common, become common all at the same time....

except the name apple :)

enjoy your little miss Scarlett...there's a reason why you like that name so much

My sister-in-law just named her daughter Scarlett Ayla. I'm more of a fan of her middle name, personally, but I don't think Scarlett is terrible, either. They named their first daughter Fiona Ann, and she's adorable; the name fits her. I'm not sure if Scarlett is becoming too common; I've never heard of anyone else using that name (not since Gone With the Wind, anyway). Then again, my sister-in-law just used it, so maybe it will be more widespread someday.

Scarlett is a beautiful name. I have a friend with identical twin daughters named Scarlett and Ruby. At first I thought it was too much,(the color reference), but now I love the names, especially Scarlett.
PS..I'm a neonatal nurse so I know all the new baby names...Scarlett hasn't hit the Hayley, Madeline, or Grace territory yet.

i think its a really cool and pretty name. Besides, even if it's not common, that's still good! I've been reading everywhere that uncommon names are popular now!

I personally love that name. It's not weird, but I think it may be gaining popularity. That shouldn't matter, though. As long as you like it.
