Myspace in and of itself is not the problem. It's the people on it. It's as safe as a forum or chatroom. There are predators all over the internet. You can't single it down to one website.

No.

The critics claims are accurate. There are predators that browse MySpace looking for young girls (and boys) to exploit. While MySpace has a strict policy against nudity, some teens do post suggestive photos of themselves. Some people do post vulgar and profane comments and blog articles.

But the fact of the matter is that nothing in this world is 100% safe. Reports of teachers sexually exploiting children are in the news on a regular basis. Go to your local mall and you may see teens that are wearing clothes that make Paris Hilton look modest. Hang out in any high school locker room and you’re likely to hear conversations that would draw heavy fines if broadcast in prime time.

From what I’ve seen, MySpace is not some new harbinger of evil. Sexual predators, amoral people, and teens gone wild didn’t appear on MySpace out of nowhere. MySpace is simply an online expression of the world we live in – the good and the bad.

The question is not whether MySpace is safe because nothing is. The real issue is whether MySpace can be used safely or whether the risk is too great and we ought to stay away from MySpace altogether.

I would like to pose another question as the answer to your question. Do you think LASER technology is safe? the answer could be yes and no at the same time. Depending on the use LASER could help cure cancer on one hand, while it could blast an airplane in midair.
Similarly myspace is the biggest portal for networking and making new friends; however, based on the individual's social setting some items, people, and thoughts may prove to be damaging to the young kids or even adults at home.

therefore, caution and supervision is advised.

It is NOT entirely safe. There are Myspace predators. Several women have been raped and numerous people have been abducted. BUT I don't think it is so much myspace as peoples being naieve. NEVER give your highschool, do NOT show pictures that might attract a pervert. DO NOT believe that peoples pics are real. NEVER meet anyone you meet there unless in public places. Never give your phone number. There are a few myspace viruses.
